COP Practical- App Maps

I have decided for my practical to create a printed version of Instagram, a social app that is highly visual. I have mentioned the app a few times within my dissertation. The app is interactive so I will make the publication interactive. I have started by looking at Instagram and how the app works, looking at app maps to see the structure of the app, the structure of the app will determine the structure of the publication. 

About Instagram 

Instagram is a free photo and video sharing app available on Apple iOS, Android and Windows Phone. People can upload photos or videos to our service and share them with their followers or with a select group of friends. They can also view, comment and like posts shared by their friends on Instagram.

Its creators, the 26-year-old Stanford graduates Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger (pictured above in their own Instagram creation) now stand to share the best part of $1billion that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg paid for their creation.

What is the average amount of likes on Instagram for different age groups?

Over 90% of Instagram users are under the age of 35, with 28% of users in the 18-29 year old age bracket. 23% of teens have claimed that Instagram is their favourite social media network.

Home

The home page is a constant scroll of updates of picture from people you follow, the home page is live. Users use the infinite scroll to like and comment on images. In blue under the image is the users that have already liked the image. 

Search 

The search icon lets you search for any user, hashtag or place. Discover people lets you connect with your Facebook friends and suggests people you may know. You can also explore posts, these posts will be specific to you from things you have previously liked and people you follow. 

Activity 

Activity has two main links to it, following and you. The ‘following’ tab shows you a live feed of who is liking and following what right now. ‘You’ tab is specific to your profile, who is liking you images, following you, tagging you in images and new Facebook friends that have just joined Instagram. 

Profile

The profile link is all about you. At the top are more icons to see a map of where your images were taken and photos people have tagged you in. You can also edit your profile here.
