Lecture 4- Pictures at work, Illustration in Action

Illustration is a spiritual imagination, a strategic image making used within the context of visual communication to convey meaning or concept.

Context- purpose, problem, audience, reason, client
Concept- idea,meaning

Lance Wyman's illustration designs for US National Zoo Washington, keeping his designs clean, simple, graphical and readable.

Chrissie McDonald for Kate Nash a singer song writer. I love how Chrissie has designed these to fit with Kate Nash's style of music, they work well as a collection almost theatrical, the top right is her album cover which also fits with the theme.

Graphic designers imploy illustrors to work on branding projects, they are an essential part of most graphic design.

From this lecture I have looked into various illustrors that were mentioned to look into their work further. My favourite illustrator that was mentioned was Gemma Correll.

Here are just a couple of designs that I love of hers. I love the simplicity of them and the almost childlike doodle theme she has. The 'Pugs not Drugs' was used by Urban Outfitters on a t-shirt and has become quite famous. I have enjoyed looking at her work, I think she is now one of my favourite illustrators.
