How to... Research and Content

We started to put our initial ideas down as a mind map, brain storming all the ideas that came to our head. We knew we wanted to inform, and the audience would be freshers of Leeds College of Art. There was a lot of content we could of put in, we had to narrow it down a lot because we almost had too much information.

Splitting into catorgies was a good idea as it gave us all a smaller portion to research each, and then we knew we wouldn't all be researching the same thing and overlapping.

I researched into 'how to keep fit on a budget' for this there was alot of areas I could go into and things to include were:
  • A list of the cheapest gyms
  • Cycle and jogging routes/ top places to jog and cycle
  • Toning and quick home exercises
  • How many calories you burn off
  • Exercise plans for certain areas of the body
  • iPhone apps
  • How many calories are in everyday things
  • Units in alcohol

Other ideas for the booklet included:
  • A contents
  • The perfect hangover smoothie
  • Super foods, to prevent colds and getting 'freshers flu'
  • 7 day recipie plan, with prices and calorie intake and other levels
  • An cupboard essential list
  • General tips on budgeting eg write a shopping list before you go shopping
  • Cuts of meat, because people only normaly go for the cuts of meats they know are easy to cook and not ones that as cheapest
  • How to get creative with snacks, to make quick easy and healthy ones
  • Distances from student accomodation to college
  • Useful web links

We had so much content that we knew we needed to make it into a booklet, we wanted something small and pocket sized guide to inform students about 'how to keep fit and healthy on a budget'

We got really inspired by this little booklet we got from the college, we loved the layout and the playful theme of it. I like the hand drawn feel it has and the texture of the pages, the size is just right as well as its pocket sized.

The colour theme is great in this book as well, using the greys and the whites and background colours but then highlighing the key information in yellows and blues. We also noticed that there wasn't alot of information on each page.

Once we then had all the research we then needed to sort it out in the page order of the booklet. We put it in the order we wanted, starting with contents, budget, cuts of meat, cupboard essentials, recipes, super foods and exercise.
